We have installed new CPPM version 6.14 VM pending migration from version 6.10.

I noticed that the memory utilization is always very high even when there is no workload.

currently using 16GB. is it enough ?

When ClearPass 6.14.0 is freshly installed on a VMware or Hyper-V instance, in a C1000V or C2000V VA it occupies 16 GB RAM by default, matching the N1000 appliance. Users should be aware that the system requirements have not changed and remain the same at 8GB RAM (C1000V and 16GB for a C2000V). The size of the instance can be changed to 8 GB RAM to form a C1000V appliance type if required.

16 GB is fine for a C2000V, and it's what 6.14 installs with by default. The high number on an idle box is normal. ClearPass reserves memory at boot for its Java services and the database, so it reads high whether anything is authenticating or not. That doesn't mean the VM is short on memory.

What matters is the appliance type of the license you're bringing over from 6.10. Size the VM to that (8 GB for a C1000V, 16 GB for a C2000V, more for a C3000V), not to the idle graph. Once real auth traffic lands on it, sustained swap use is the number to watch.

If it still looks wrong, tell us which graph you're reading, the ClearPass dashboard or the hypervisor's, and which VA type the license is.

KY-bcb815, did that settle it? If it still looks tight once auth traffic lands, check whether swap stays up on the ClearPass dashboard rather than the hypervisor's memory graph, and post which VA type the license is. If it's sorted, marking it solved helps the next person sizing a 6.14 VM.

after migrating to the new CPPM, we noticed there are alerts for low disk space.

Did you follow the upgrade path from 6.10 to 6.11 then to 6.14?

we setup new 6.14 VM since we are moving from VMware to different HCI environment.

import/re-configure settings on the new 6.14 VM.

So did you backup 6.10 and import to 6.11 before going to or importing to 6.14? From what I can find going straight to 6.14 from a 6.10 import will cause disk space errors.
    See the following guidance. https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docLocale=en_US&docId=sd00007984en_us&page=GUID-47CFAC94-1900-4972-90BD-E12EC3A16BA2.html

Yes, export from 6.10 and then import to 6.14.

so this upgrade path is not recommended ??

The supported upgrade path from 6.10 to 6.14 is the following:

    • Backup from 6.10 and restore to a fresh installed 6.11 updated to latest version
Follow the detailed documentation of upgrading to 6.11 as this version is running a new operating system.
There are a lot of older discussions in the forum related to the update to 6.11 due to the OS change.
    • Upgrade 6.11 to 6.14
    • Update 6.14.0 to 6.14.1

Update direct from 6.10 to 6.14 is not supported.

    What is your hypervisor?
